Yummy Combs® Dog Treats Recently Earned VOHC Seal of Acceptance® for Tartar

The Veterinary Oral Health Council (VOHC®) has granted the VOHC Seal of Acceptance in the ‘Helps Control Tartar’ category for all five sizes of the pet treat Yummy Combs® produced by Pet’s Best Life, LLC.

The VOHC is an independent-third party entity and recognizes products that meet pre-set standards of plaque and calculus (tartar) reduction in dogs and cats.  Products are awarded the VOHC Seal of Acceptance following scientific review of data from trials conducted according to VOHC protocols. 

Dogs and cats are prone to gum disease just like people.  Gum disease is an infection that results from the build-up of soft, sticky dental plaque.  The bacteria in the dental plaque leads to gum tissue inflammation and within a few days plaque hardens into dental tartar.  Controlling the build-up of plaque and tartar is important to deter gum disease.

The VOHC review process and the grant of the VOHC Seal of Acceptance is based on results of a series of well-defined scientific trials conducted by validated testing facilities.  Data from trials must achieve statistically significant pre-set standards demonstrating that the tested dental product deters the buildup of dental plaque and tartar on tooth surfaces.  Independent review and scientific validation are an important issue as the number of treat companies has increased more than 10-fold in this century.  Products that carry the VOHC Seal of Acceptance have demonstrated dental efficacy in reducing plaque and/or tartar build-up in cat and dogs.  The VOHC Seal is an important validation for both veterinary professionals and pet owners.
